A few words of advice...Please read

Photoshop is a new skill and, like anything new, it can be overwhelming at first. Please don't give up on it or throw
up your hands. I've been teaching photoshop since 1999 and have had many students go on to make graphic arts
their career. So.... this is what I want you to do.

1.When you keep doing the same thing over and over and it still isn't working the STOP. You're just making a
mistake somewhere. Shoot me an email and I'll try to help.

2. When you start talking back to Photoshop it's time to take a break.

3. For the first several weeks your homework shouldn't take more than an hour. If you're doing it right it might just
take about 15 minutes. If you've worked on it for an hour and can't get it correct then STOP. As long as you show
me that you've really tried then I will give you credit for the effort. You will need to finish the work after we go over
it together.
This happens to everyone at some point in photoshop. This happens many times to
everyone and it still happens to me.

4. Everyone loses their Photoshop tool palette.  Don't panic. Just go to Window, Workspace, Default and it will pop
back up.

5. You're going to make LOTS and LOTS of mistakes and that's ok. Guess what? I'll probably make some
mistakes, too. I'll probably make them in class right in front of you and I've been doing this a LONG time. It's a lot
of info and we'll get through it together!

6. By the end of 6 weeks you'll be just fine. I promise. By the end of the year you won't believe the things you can
do and it's a skill you'll always have.

Now for those of you who want to learn everything you can as quickly as you can please do me a favor.
Don't do
the assignments ahead of time. What?
Did you think every teacher wanted you to do that? Not this time. I will
make a special page where you can find as many new skills as you want to learn, but please let me teach you my
lessons in my order. Ok?

Assignment and Syllabus Information

The syllabus is the same as the assignment page. Click on the link above for your assignments. I have all
of the assignments through October and then I'll open up another assignment page.  However,
sometimes additional reading, projects, and links to further information will be posted as soon as
possible after class, but no later than Monday following the class. You will be given an assignment in
class, but always check the website to verify your assignment and what additional information you need
to complete it.

We do not use a text. You will find your assignment on this website and occasionally on handouts.

Have your battery fully charged and you laptop open and ready to go when class starts.
We will have to work out extension cords for those who have bad batteries.

Homework assignments will be the primary source for grades. Class participation and effort will also
contribute to your grade. The first semester is mostly step by step instruction and the second semester is
where you get to express you creativity.
